Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is a private, internationally ranked research university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, renowned for its innovative programs in science, technology, business, and the arts.
As we include Airports in this category of Public Institutions, Hanlon was the electrical contractor responsible for Pittsburgh International Airport Solar Energy Farm.
The unique aspect of Pittsburgh International Airport’s (PIT) solar farm is that it is part of a microgrid system that powers the entire airport, including the terminals, airfield, a hotel, and a gas station, using a combination of natural gas and solar power. This makes PIT the first major U.S. airport to operate with its own microgrid. The solar farm, which currently consists of 10,000 solar panels, will be expanded.
